Weight in Blazer Question
If I have 300LBS (approx) of boxes and and a hitch mounted cargo carrier 200LBS approx in there...
Do I need to put the Blazer in 3d gear like I would towing a trailer on a 1200 mile trip?

The only reason to drop down into 3rd (towing or otherwise) is if the transmission is hunting for the right gear. Constant shifting will heat up the transmission fluid, shortening its life.
So, if you can hold OD just fine, then drive it in OD.
