Default What Egine to use

I have a 99 S10 Blazer. The engine is blown.
I need to know if there is a range in years that can be used?
Like a 2001 will work.
Thanks for any help on this.

I believe 97-99 are the same. There are issues with different years I know. Hopefully someone will chime in with the exact years & issues.

I put a 2002 4.3 from an S10 in my 1996 Jimmy when my engine went. I believe all we had to do was pull the intake manifold off the old engine and spider injector and it all worked.

something about the knock sensor changing around 98 I think? believe you need to drill and tap it to use your oem knock sensor putting newer motor in older.
no idea about the other way around someone here will have your answer.
I THINK in late 2002? they switched to mfi(which is a good thing) but that part might be for the 5.7.......
