Blazers will last according to how they are maintained. If there's a problem and it's repaired right away and the fluids are changed regularly, they should last a very long time.

I have to agree 100% with gizwilly...
The life expectancy ofthat 96 blazer with water in the engine is, well, maybe tomorrow or next week, I would Run not walk away from that money pit. Also therest of the drive train has 175K on it, It's 11 years old. You will be lucky to break even just parting it out........

If you don't do nothin it'll last a long time. Wrap it in duck tape and it'll last even longer!
Run boy run!!! Nothin worse than a bad family deal!

Depends on where the water is getting into the oil. It could also be in the radiator. There should be a oil cooler in the radiator. Water and oil dont mix and they tend to screw up the crank bearings if left unchecked for too long. Then your looking at a complete engine rebuild.Only you can decide what is too much. The only fatal one is a cracked block, the rest are repairable.
I have bought trucks that need work just to get them to run.
The most recent
'87 S10-Blazer with 35,000 miles on a rebuilt engine. Truck has 180,000, the body is in rough shape, and I had to rebuild the tranny. Right now I have $1,500 into it.
'91 S10-Blazer- $300. Bought it for parts to fix the '87 and the engine for the '93. I took all the parts I wanted off of it, and then swapped what was left for a rebuilt 4.3L v6 from a fullsize truck.
'93 S10-Blazer with 190,000 and a engine with a bad crank bearing for $50. I dropped in thatrebuilt 4.3L from a fullsize. Right now I have less then $1000 into it and that includes 4 brand new tires, and the $300 for the donor truck.
It all depends on you, and what your plans are.
