Exclamation when my 96 blazer get hot it wont pull in gear! help please.

when you start it and put it into gear it goes but when it gets hot its just revs up and wont go anywhere. i was thinkin maybe it just needs a trans filter and fluid. i just bought the truck for 850. and would liek to know it anyone had any ideas about wht it could be. Hoping i dont have to put a trany in it.

It is doubtful that a filter and fluid change would cure this problem. This is likely caused by worn seals in the transmission that allow fluid to bypass once its warmed up.

Everything in the transmission can be replaced, it is just a matter of how difficult/time-consuming it is.

The problem that you have is that you do not know how long the transmission has been operating like this. Slipping is VERY bad. It will eat up the clutches inside the transmission.

You could start with a pan drop and filter change to see where that gets you, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it having a major impact.

That really depends on what is found to be the problem. A full rebuild can cost over $1500.

If you take the truck into a shop, expect to pay $1500 - $2200 depending on if it's a 2wd or 4wd. If you R&R the tranny yourself you might get it done as cheap as $900 or so but then you may not get a warranty.
