Unhappy Will Not Shift out of Park

My '97 Blazer, LS, AT, 4WD will not shift out of park normally. Console shifter, initially button on shifter would not depress when attempting to shift out of park, with brake pedal depressed. Changed ignition switch about 2 years ago. After about 5 minutes of jiggling and jostling around the shifter and shift button I was able to disengage from park and into and out of all gears. Looked at linkage and did not find a problem. I have been able to do a temporary fix by putting a zip tie on shifter button to keep the button fully depressed, thus I am able to move through all gears including park and get my key out of the ignition switch. My brake lights work, no blown fuses. What should I look at to attempt DIY repair?

Currently I can use the vehicle with the "temp fix".

Thanks for the feedback. I did what I thought was an exhaustive search on this subject. Before I made my post. Couldn't find exactly what I was looking for or I found what I was looking for and didn't know or realize it at the time. Anyhow, I removed the center console and looked around and jiggled a few things around. As soon as I jiggled the wire harness at the base of the shift lever the shifter button depressed and then able to shift out of park.

So I believe I have a short at that wire harness. The wire bundle goes into a wire loom and through the floor. What is the name of this circuit so I can buy the right replacement part?
