96 blazer wont shift out of park

Default 96 blazer wont shift out of park

my 1996 chevy blazer will not shift out of park cant get shifting lever (by steering wheel to move out of park) Right before it totaly froze i had to rock it one or twice to move it out of park do you have any idea what this could be? I was thinking position sensor but now im not sure please help me!

Are you parked on a hill, by any chance?

Or were you when you had to rock it?

It sounds like the parking pawl is sticking inside the tranny; this is usually caused by putting the tranny in park on a hill and not putting the e-brake on at all or putting it on after you have removed your foot from the brake and the truck has moved.
