Anyone out there have a wiring diagram for a 1998 Blazer. I need to locate an easy access to a acc power wire to hardwire my radar detector.

On the fuse panel of most there are blank spots marked [IGN]. Put a male connector on your wire and plug it in there. This will make it were if the key is in the on possition the radar will be on. This also does not effect the acc possition.

 

I have a 2003 Blazer and when i plug in my radar into the cig lighter it goes on, but when i turn the truck off it wont go off. I am going to order a direct wire for my radar, but where would i plug it into, so it will go on and off with the truck. Sounds like a dumb question, Thanx in adavnce!

On the newer vehicles, you can switch a fuse location in the box to have the lighter work with only the ignition on. My Bonneville was setup to work only when the key was on which doesn't work so well when I'm trying to pump up tires with my little 12v air compressor. Switched around a fuse or two and now it is constant power. It should be stated in your owners manual.

As far as the ACC, you should be able to wire it up to the ACC wire in the stereo harness. For my 2000, it is fuse 24 that holds the RAP (retained accessory power), IGN, and ACC for the radio. That should be what you need for the radar detector.

 

Ok i guess i am really dumb and don't get this, I am just getting out of DSM's (Eclipse AWD Turbo's) and they were old and don't have this kind of issue. So If i get this direct wire for my escort 8500, where would i put it to, does this consist of splicing and wireing, i am not dumb when it comes to doing that stuff, but i am just not getting where i can hook this direct wire (which at the end of the wire looks like two connectors that would go on each prong on a fuse connector), so basiaclly is there a fuse that you know of that would go on and off with me starting and turning off the car? Thanx!

go to an auto parts store and they sell these fuse extensions its a lil black 2 way fuse plug with a power wire comin off it so u can create your own fuse terminal to run whatever u want and depending on where u plug it in will determine if its on all the time or just with the key. i found them when i was trying to wire up florecent lights and didnt want to cut any stock wires . they work good and u can always take em out if u dont want them or want to upgrade whatever u wire into them and u dont have to cut any wires thats the thing i liked most about them

 

If you are wiring up on the interior (which you should be), you can use the clip over wire 't'... I'm really not sure if that's what they are called, but you basically just have to find a wire that has the proper on/off requirement and just tap into it with this clip over tap.

I have just recieved my hard wire kit in the mail and it has this 't' clip you talk of, and then the hard wire plugs into that 't', the only problem is i dont know what wire to place that 't' clip on?

I would also like to install this with a clean look. How would i go about removing the dash so i can hide the wire. My truck is also under warranty, would hard wireing my radar void any part of it. Might sound like a dumb question, but i have never has a new car where it has a warranty. Any ideas on installing this with a clean look.

Well, how long of a wire do you have? Also, do you have an overhead console with the trip computer or just lights? I'm assuming that you're going to put your radar detector up high. If so, you could just wire it up to the overhead wiring that's there. If you are going this route, let me know and I'll see if I can find some references for the wiring up there. There should atleast be a ground that you have up there leaving you to possibly have to run a power (RAP - retained accessory power) wire.

If you were/are planning on mounting it low, then you'll have to run a ground and power wire along the windsheild and over under the dash on either side of the truck. I looked into the possibility of pulling off the upper section of the dash to fish a wire directly down to the stereo, but no dice. The dash is one peice - top to bottom, with only small trim panels on the front of it... Even so, tucking the wires (especially if you get a two wire cable) down at the base of the windshield should make for a nice, clean install. If you don't have enough wiring to get from the center of the dash to the stereo, then I'll look into what wires you'd have to tap into off the fuse block on the drivers side. Shouldn't be that difficult. Probably just pull off of the radio RAP wire.

Let me know what your planned install location is and I'll go from there. Even if you wanted to mount it up high and there wasn't any RAP in the headliner, you can just tuck the wire up above the headliner and then down the A-pillar to the fuse block or stereo. The fuse block would probably be easier. Please let me know of all of the options your truck has (like auto-dim mirror, overhead trip computers or just lights, etc) so I can suggest the best course of action.
