Rex, what was it that prompted you to change the shifter cable?

I was having issues getting my truck in park and wasn't able to adjust the original one so I swapped it and its good to go ever since!

Rex, thank you for this write-up. My buddy is a mech, but works primarily on Dodge and Volkswagen (he's a Volks Mech on his day job). He's my buddy, but the $$$ aren't play money, so this will 1. help him hurry this along, 2. make sure he doesn't screw it up or make it more complicated than it has to be, and 3. (and prob most importantly) save me some SERIOUS $$$ in labor, since it really shows just how straight-forward the repair is. Time is money to a mech, so any time saved is money less spent!

Honestly you should just tackle the job yourself! It's easy and doesn't require any special tools at all. If you get stuck look at the pics and if your still stuck pm me and I'd be glad to help

Thank you for the post on the shifter cable R & R. It explains the bracket I found flopping around on top of the transmission.

Great write up! I did this today on my 98. The hardest part for me was ripping the frozen capret up off the floor. (Shouldnt have sunk it in a water hole just before winter lol) I ended up just making a cut down the center of my drivers floor board and pulling it apart in 2 pieces. Floor mat covered it up good! Thanks Again!

Default '95 shifter cable replaced

Thanks for the great write-up, Rex. Everything went as described. I did spend quite abit of time getting the carpet pulled back. It was necessary to remove the floor console. I was getting tired of crawling underneath the Blazer to push the selector into park. The tailgate latch would not operate unless the tranny was in park. All done now. Thanks so much for the help.

Used this write up to replace the shifter cable on my 02 Blazer. Everything went fairly smoothly and now I do not have to lay on the ground to put it into park! I am new to this forum and it is proving to be very helpful!
