300 amps
#1
Ok, I am new to this site, so hello to everyone. I do not own a blazer myself, I own an 06 mustang and frequent the forums for that vehicle. If theres one thing i've learned on the mustang forum, its that someone on there will almost always be able to answer your question, so thats why I came here. I am a member of a DARPA Urban Challenge team that is in the process of designing a fully autonomous vehicle. Our vehicle is a 2001 Chevy Blazer 4.3L V6.
Now for the question: For all of our equipment we have decided to run a dual battery setup, and are looking to get approximately 300amps out of our alternator. We already decided on what batteries, but are not set on the alternator yet. I have been looking around, and searched these forums and found many names of companies (stinger, SPL, Powermaxx, and Excessive Amperage). However, they don't quite make the 300 number we are looking for. I am hoping someone could help me in the quest of finding either an alternator that outputs very close to 300amps, or a dual-alternator kit that would allow me to install two 150amp alternators, etc.
Thanks in advance. And any other ideas/suggestions are most definately welcome.

The closest i've heard of is 200 amps by mr. alternator:

Your best bet would be to run a dual alternator setup to get the amps up. A 300amp alternator would be custom just as much as the bracketry to mount up a second alternator. I would rather do the bracketry and have two alternators 160amp alternators running slightly below full output than one custom 300amp alternator running maxed out.
Are you going to be running 120V AC to some of your components or stricktly DC power? If you have a need for running AC, then an AC generator could be used in place of say the air conditioning compressor to supply power to that equipment and use a higher output alternator for the rest of the DC equipment.
Just some ideas I thought I'd toss in. Good luck with the project. Those competitions have always been very interesting!
