I was given an amp and subs and I'm wanting to hook it up. I'm not sure if I can get away with connecting to the battery with a ring terminal using the existing post or would a post adapter be advisable? Looking around I see the post adapters described as short or long and which would best to replace the stock one?

You'll need the short one. The long one is for GM vehicles with two positive cables stacked on top of each other. You'll want to use the post adapter if you don't have top posts on your battery. Putting a ring terminal under the positive cable will lead to problems.

When I did mine (I have a side post battery) I went to the parts store and got gold plated battery bolts, which has another bolt on the end for ring terminals, it was like 4 bucks for it. works great.

I bought the kit and bolt online yesterday. Arrived today... very surprised cause it was free shipping on each from different sites. Got it all wired up and everything is working good. Though after I started it for the first time something weird happened. Only happened once but the fuel gauge flipped out. I got a piece of wire and nudged it and it works fine now "kinda" but that's another issue from the fuel pump.
