Hey guys SO I recently Bought an Pioneer DEH-P4600MP from a local yard sale for 5 bucks. I bench tested it and it worked great. Any ways long story short. I installed it into my fullsize pickup and it likes to smoke when cranked up.

Dude, once the smoke comes out it's really hard to put it back inside.

Did the truck have a stereo in it recently prior to installing the Pioneer? The CD player might have something wrong with it, but I'd check the speakers to see if one is blown or shorting out. A blown speaker or speaker shorting out to the frame is the first thing coming to mind. I've seen it a lot in the full-size chevy's where the speaker is a bit loose and will shift allowing the speaker leads to contact the frame of the vehicle. Make sure there is plenty of clearance between the speaker leads and the frame of the vehicle as well as the frame of the speaker.

You can check it quickly at the stereo harness with a multimeter to see if any of the speaker wires short to ground. Bang the dash around the speaker while testing to see if anything shifts or changes.

Are the speakers new/aftermarket or old and/or factory types?

Good to hear you found the issue. Is it something you're able to replace or is your $5 gone up in smoke?
