Default Which amp would be best.

I have a set of 4 alpine speakers in my blazer. Two are 6.5 in the front doors and two are a set of 6x9 in the rear. The rms handling is 100watts and max is 300 for each speaker at 4ohm. My head unit is a pioneer 3100up (i think).

I do not have a sub or anything of that sort at the moment so my question is what would be the best route for me to take on getting a amp for these speakers. (i would like to get more bass out of them because atm i think the head unit cant handle the amount of power they need and is causing distortion at higher bass levels).

And if you think that a amp wouldnt help me much if any for the cost let me know because i dont want to spend money for nothing. Thanks

I don't know a whole ton about speakers but my guess would be your best bet would be to save up for a sub and amp if your really wanting good bass.

Also think about how you have bass and treb coming out of your door speakers which will cause distortion. I would save and get an amp and sub that way you can have the bass coming out the sub or subs and the treb coming from the door speakers so distortion will not be as bad

don't ever look at the max wattage that doesn't mean anything. if your speakers are 100 watts rms each. you will want to look for an amp that puts out 100 watts x 4 rms at 4 ohms. if you want more base however your speakers might give you a little more with an amp but even a small 100-200 watt sub will give you ALOT of bass. The biggest reason people run an amp to their speakers is to make them louder not so much bassier. It also increases the clarity of sound at higher volumes. if you are looking for more bass its better to get a sub. Your speakers will wear out a lot faster if you have the bass turned up the whole way

Thanks for the replies guys. After looking at even most 4 channel amps that would output enough power to make any difference it would cost more for the amp than to get a 10" alpine and a amp. So who makes good amps? Im looking at this sub http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...+-TYPE+R-.html

The reason im asking is my parents are wanting to know what id like for my bday and im just giving them a list of stuff they may want to look at. I dont want crazy bass but i want enough to be able to enjoy it.

I'd look into a decent 6 channel(100x6 [bridge 2 channels to give 200x2 and 100x2] or 4 channel (150x4)

thats my suggestion. I suggest getting a better amp to produce a clearer sound

Definatley get a 4 channel amp for your speakers. It doesnt really have to put out 100x4 to make a drastic improvement, 70x4 would be fine too. 100x4 is a big 4channel amp, you only need a medium one. Sometimes there is 5 channels too, thats 4 speakers and a sub. that would do you find cause you can always find the sub later and there is no multi amp mess if you are new to the wiring. You can adjust the crossovers on the amp to change the frequency peaks too which is handy for cutting out bass and getting more volume. You can always add bass later. I buy stuff in the buy and sell, not brand new. You can find killer deals, just check sites like craigslist and kijiji....

your headunit is probably around 10 watts rms or so, turn down the distortion boosters and get a 4 channel. the result will be MUCH clearer sound and you will have crossovers
