The yellow top can be charged constantly but can handle the deep drains at the same time.
Sounds like it's a great choice for a starter battery then

I just looked at their website, www.optimabatteries.com, and it looks like the Yellow Top is a fine choice for a starter battery:

Benefits and Applications:

Dual-purpose [ul][*]Deep cycling and cranking power all packed into one battery.[/ul] Longer life [ul][*]Lasts up to 2 times longer than traditional flat-plate batteries.[/ul] Higher reserve capacity [ul][*]Constant performance quality, which keeps your battery running at the same level even as it's being discharged.[/ul] Optimal starting power [ul][*]More power in the initial 1, 3, 5, and 10 seconds of the starting process than comparably rated conventional lead-acid batteries.[/ul] Longer shelf-life (lower self-discharge) [ul][*]Ideal for seasonal use, fully charged it can sit unused for up to 12 months at room temperature (or below) and still start a vehicle.[/ul] Vibration resistance [ul][*]15 times more resistant to vibration than traditional lead-acid batteries.[/ul] Leak-proof [ul][*]Mountable in almost any position.[/ul]

I used to work at a dealer, they are rated for cold cranking amps which means they are a cranking battery. They are a hybrid design combining cranking and deep cycle into one battery so the red tops normally have better CCAs and the blue tops have better run times but you can only get so much of one or the other and they have one of the better combo of the two on the market IMHO.
