Default Component speaker installation - help/advice needed!

Hello all! My vehicle is a 2000 Blazer LS 4-door.

After living with blown speakers in 3 out of 4 doors and a driver's side dash tweeter that sounded like crinkling foil, I decided enough was enough was enough. I went out and bought a Pioneer DEH X8600BS head unit and a set of Pioneer TS-D1720C component speakers. I got the head unit installed without a hitch. But little did I know what a nightmare the speakers would be to install! Maybe it's just my inexperience with car audio or something, but I'm having a heck of a time getting them installed and figured I'd come here for help.

Firstly, where would be a good place to mount the crossovers? I don't want them in the doors being subjected to the abuse of opening and closing the doors, plus my doors in particular are not sealed well at all and I don't want moisture getting in the crossovers. I found a nice hollow space behind the front passenger kick panel for that crossover, but cannot figure out where to mount the front drivers side crossover. This also leads me to my next question...

Secondly, how in the world do you run speaker wire through the rubber door boot on the front drivers side door and into the dash? I felt of the factory wires running through the boot and they seem to take a sharp turn into the dash to somewhere I cannot see. I removed the dash bezel and under dash and still cannot see a place to run the speaker wire from the door, through the rubber door jamb boot, and into the dash. There seems to be a large metal plate (perhaps part of the parking brake pedal mount?) that is blocking any access. Has any one else ran wires through there? What was your method?

I'd also like to note that I have already installed the new tweeters (which were much larger than the stock ones) in the stock locations in the dash, using mounts made out of steel hanger strap. Worked like a charm, I just need to wire them up to the crossovers once I find a good location for them.

I also plan on buying an amp in the near future, but I at least want some decent sound until then.

Thanks for any help!
