So is it hard to get to the front speakers?

RE: Dash speakers
Nope. Easy. Have to use a low profile ratchet with a philips head or purchase something like this.

This is what I used.
Just remove the two screws holding the grille on then two more hold in the speaker. You will have to trim down the inside (bottom) of the speaker grille to put it back in place once the new speaker is installed. You'll see what I mean when the time comes.

I thought I could hear my dash speakers until I went to replace them and realized I didn't have any. My '99 had no options installed, it is a bargain basement bare bones model, it had a factory cassette player which may have been the only option.
To get at the speaker grills you'll need a torx wrench. I used a 1/4 drive torx bit in a 1/4" socket for something to hold on to and was able to back the screws out by hand after a quarter turn with a pair of pliers, when I reinstalled the screws I didn't torque them down so I can get the screws back out by hand if need be at any point.

My '96 S10 Blazer doesn't have any dash speakers either. One day i took off the speaker grilles, and there was only a piece of black cardboard held down by two screws. When i took that off, i searched for wires, but found nothing. My truck came with a factory cassette player too. I guess it had no options either.
