Double din
Hello:
I have a 1997 s-10 4 door 4x4 blazer.
I have a single din after market radio.
I've been looking at these nice double din radio's with GPS ans all the goodies.
How hard is it to install a double din stereo?

its nearly impossible in the 95-97 dashes, I believe you have to hollow out the back and make the hole bigger, plus make mounting brackets so its not bouncing all over the place.
so if you're feeling creative

double din units are that big for a reason, pop out units have a separate "brain" piece to them that you put behind your dash. Also watch out for cheap ones the motors on them are temperamental, other than that they are pretty much the same as a double din unit, all the same features and whatnot, also in blazers the flip up over the vents so watch how much heat you are throwing out of them
Someone on s10forum did a 98+ dash swap in his 95-97. Been a long time since Ive been over there tho. Someone else also did a double din in his truck on here I made a few posts on that thread so when I find it Ill post up the link. He modified another kit for mounting brackets and he had to dremel out a little bit at the back of the mounting "hole" but its not that big of a deal. I plan on doing it when I have the funds to put into a indash navigation because the flip outs just isnt practacle to me and I dont want to deal with the motors tearing up or as benedict said the heat coming out of the vents the screen will block.
edit: heres the link to the one on here https://blazerforum.com/forum/audio-video-electronics-8/double-din-head-unit-help-needed-53208/ his sticks out a little though. But otherwise its a pretty clean install it looks like.

Here's a link to a thread on s10forum where someone installed a double din in a 94-97 dash. link
I put a new stereo in mine this weekend (single din) and it looks like it would be pretty easy to make room in the back for a flush install.

It depends how big the double din is.
I fit a pioneer avic f700BT in there with no harness because it fits perfectly on top and bottom.
There is just extra room on the sides but I leave that for air circulation.
Cutting the back out takes about an hour with a pair of angled needle nose pliers.
All in all took me maybe an hour or 2 total working time, 5 hours of thinking.
I don't feel like spending a lot of money on getting custom trim or mount (people wanted $200)
It's not a show car so who cares anyways.
