Double din head unit help needed

Double din head unit help needed
The double din head unit kits all seem to have less depth because they run flush with the dash trim.
The single din kits have more than half an inch outside.
Any ideas on how to put a double din in a 96 jimmy?
Here is a pic of the single din kit, note how it puts the unit out a lot.
I also noticed that if I cut along the line of where it first starts to spread out at an angle, the double din would fit perfectly inside the single din kit, but would lack the ability to mount it?
Any ideas?

Well when I was looking at doing a double din for my 95 I was just going to build it all from scratch. I never got a unit before the truck started running like crap and I've had some other personal money issues so now I'm going to have to wait. I was going to see how deep the double din could go then basicly build a plate to mount it to. Its hard to describe what the idea in my head is without trying it. But Ill watch this thread closely

I was able to fit the double din in the dash easily.
Behind the dash, where the head unit sits, is some hard plastic.
Behind that, is, either the air conditioning duct, or a bunch of wires.
I chipped most of it away. and on the bottom, I was able to use a lot of the room for hiding wires.
But it fits, and only sticks out about a half inch.
It's pretty secure, but I still want to have it mount to the top like the single din kit does, and then screw into the sides of the unit to secure it, then make trim for it, so it's not just sitting there.

In the second picture, you can see how the gray metal isn't even exposed.
You wouldn't even have to do much other than trim for it.
But the WIRES Are a mess and you will need to either make a custom harness that you can just fit the head unit into that will slide into the connections or route the wires in the back
Bottom line: it fits, and I don't know why they don't make kits for these cars.

Looks good and probably cause there's not that high of a demand for them.
