Final Decisions
Alright this should be my last post before i actually buy the speakers and begin to install them i just want to make sure what im buying will fit and work well in my 2001 zr2.
So the first factor is the Alpine Type-R 12" sub in the back. I'm planning on hooking that up to an Alpine 500w mono amp. However, somehow i need to pull the power off the battery with a relay somewhere so that it turns on and off with the car. Does anyone know how to pull the power and put the relay, and also a fuse in? Then how do i run a signal to the sub amp?

Next comes the Head unit im planning on buying. I think im going to buy the Kenwood KDC-X693, but im not sure if i should do this or keep the original head unit and amp it. What do you guys think?

Then i am planning on buying Alpine Type-R 6.5" component speakers for the doors and installing the tweeters that come with those in the dash, does anyone know if that will all fit smoothly? and where could i put the crossover, any ideas? Then in the back i'm putting Alpine Type-R 6"x9"'s im pretty sure these will fit without any issues. For both of these speakers would it be a good idea to run new wiring that can handle the higher load? And lastly is the Kenwood head unit enough power for these, or would it be noticeably better to amp them?

I know this is a ton of questions to answer just please help all you can, i'm 16 and trying to do this the RIGHT way not some cheap way. I care alot about the quality of my work so please help me out.
Thanks Everyone

When you get a new reciever theres a wire that turns your amp on and off with the reciever. Also I believe if you get a wire for powering your amp from your battery it has a fuse in it. Signal also comes from the reciever if it has sub preamps.

Your amp with have a wire that tells it to turn on when the radio is on. I think it is called a remote wire. Once you get the HU and AMP its a simple 1 wire, no ground, shot.
As for the fuse, it will be IN-LINE (part of the power wire) and should be like 6"-18" from the battery, most of your wire set ups will come with it.
It's up to you. A new amp and hu will change the sound. Depends on what you are going for. I changed mine and would not go back for anything
Crossovers will fit inside the door panel. Just 2 sisde tape it in or you can mount more permanently if you choose. I assume you do not want to display them or screw with their programming AFTER you get them dialed in.
The OEM wires can handle A LOT more than they do now. Your stock speakers are like 8 ohm (hugely under powered). If you want to run new wires it will be a bit more work but nothing TOO tough. not necessary if your current speakers get juice though.
the hu will put out some juice. between the new speakers (probably 2 or 4 ohm) and the new HU you will see gains in sound. If you really want to get your $$$ worth, amp it. a 2 channel amp will really push those dash/doors well (like a 300/2 if you want to have hearing loss by age 20)
enjoy.
