I have the alpine HU also, with the ipod hook up. I ran the cable down behind the dash, under the center area, which holds the shifter, then cut a hole in the console insert and ran the cable up in there. I still have about two feet of slack on the cable, and i just open up the console plug the ipod in and close it, since i control it with the head unit. I like this setup because the fact that i have an ipod in my car remains invisible to onlookers, its hidden in the console.
