thats why im asking for your opinions. the thing that worries me about going with a set of components is that im not sure if i have to get a small amp for them. i know nothing about audio stuff. i have common sense, mechanical knowledge, and i can read a wireing diagram. but i have never hooked up anythign other then a new HU.thats why i wanted to take the easy way out and replace my factory speakers with the same size aftermarket. how can you mess that up ? ive been reading about some components comming with cross overs and some not. i dont even know what a cross over is and what it does.

Theres TONS of info on the net... you just have to search for it. Crutchfield is a good place for info. Go to their AV learning site and read up on the basics.

buying $1000 speakers and using your radios internal power is like installing NOS but never connecting it to the engine. It doesnt make any sense.

With a $1000 budget, you could get a decent set of speakers (whichever you prefer. Your ears are what really matter, not what anyone else says sounds good.) a multi channel amp to run both the sub and speakers, replacing the one already there, and have a reputable shop install it for you. No hassle, and all you have to do is decide which speakers sound the best to your ears. Putting an external amp on the speakers will be your best decision: Any speakers will sound better with more power.
