Default motor noise in stereo

Hi, I have owned this blazer about 8 months now and love it. A couple weeks ago I noticed motor noise in the radio. Everything is stock. It is intermittent and you might describe it as ticking noise. I replaced the plugs and wires last weekend. I just read the post about removing the dash, so I am ready for that. My question is should I go for the loose connection on the radio, or could there be an electrical problem in the engine?
Thanks,

Mine has been doing this for about 6 months now, making a winding noise that gets louder the higher the rpm's are.

The noise is only on the radio and not the CD. I notice it on FM and not AM. It changes with the RPMs. I noticed the problem several weeks ago. I changed the plugs (used AC iridium) and wires last weekend thinking that might help. It didn't.

In my '93 manual it says noise from the engine heard over the radio is coming from a faulty Ignition Control Module inside the distributor and only happens on the FM channel...it also says to move any wires away from the distributor as far as you can...look for carbon build up inside the cap...a black spot on the rotor...oil leads on the terminals inside the cap or a faulty coil.....hope this helps a little...

Update - I just replaced the ignition coil, cap and rotor. There was some corrosion in the cap and on the rotor contact. Preliminary results are good. No more noise in the radio. Engine runs smooth.

Default re:

the noise that comes through the radio that sounds like the engine is called ground noise, its usually a problem with a connection not being grounded properly somewhere in the system and can also be caused by the dis cap or alternator, if you have an aftermarket stereo that is amped, then you can get rid of the noise by simply putting a ground loop isolator inbetween the rca out of the deck and the rca into the amp
