New speakers - what do I do with these foam rings?
I got some new speakers for the doors on my blazer, but in the box were these foam rings with some adhesive on them. I'm assuming that they go where the black foam (more like ooze now) on the old door speakers was... just laying on the top edge between the speaker and the panel. Are these supposed to block air flow between the inside of the door panel and the cabin of the car? Someone told me they aren't necessary, and could actually make the sound worse. Any thoughts? Is he crazy?

I have no idea, and i'm probably wrong but my guess is that it's for sound deadening, stop rattling and such... but I don't know.

I was kind of guessing as such, too. Anybody else have an idea?

Take them off. Anything factory is made just because they can put it on there. How would those small foam rings stop any sound?I can sort of see how it would but since the material is very thin and weak then how can it really stop it?

Those rings are for sealing. If you put them around the underside of the basket on the speaker it creates a seal when screwed into the door panel. they work really nice, although you don't neccesarily need them.
