i seen a pic on here that had two amps. and i wanted to go with 8s because i listen to a lot of metal, with a lot of double bass. im looking for a heavy punch feel to my music. i just figure that 10s might lag when it comes to such fast speeds.

if i would set mine up like that i would want to build some kind of box that i can set over it to protect it.

if you got any where else that would be better and they can still breathe?

Thats about what I listen to as well.. It all comes back to how the box it made. I have 2 12s in a ported box tuned for high bass (100Hz give or take) and I love how it sounds....

My girl has 2 10s in a ported box tuned for low bass (30Hz give or take) powered by a smaller amp.. Take the 2 systems side by side, hers is boomy, mine is popy.. Listening to rap (which we both dont like), hers is louder. Listening to rock, mine is MUCH louder...

Ill try to get some sound clips in her car with her 2 10 box and my 2 12 box..

I originally had this amp with 2 arc 8s

http://www.arcaudio.com/productdescr...125.2-mini.asp

Its a great amp.. I just wanted something louder... If you are just after small and want bass, the arc mini is defiently something to look at. It is a tiny amp that will produce a decent amount of bass.. Excellent if you are not amping the surround speakers..

doing posts like this is starting to kill me as I miss listening to my system.... I cant wait to get it put in the Blazer.........

yeah, i've done some installs in the seat backs, but had one melt the surounding seat material due to the owner over running the amp. as for "tight bass" for metal/hard rock, like loomdog said, it's all about the tuning.
the 2 JL 12W6's i had in my '92 could keep up with any music i played. house, dance, rap, metal, rock (hard or soft), R & B, Reggae, jazz, even classical. you name it, my dial is always on the move depending on the mood i'm in.

now i did have a large amp powering everything, but again, most of it's in the tuning of the box. keep it sealed, it's tighter, smaller, and quicker responding.

I never thought about the heat from the amps melting the seat materials.. What kind of amps were they? Im assuming your talking about the foam padding that melted?

I got some awesome news today!! I finally got my HU back from JVC!!!!!!! Also got some great mounting ideas for the system..... Hopefully Ill be able to get the suspension stuff done this weekend and Ill be able to officially start my system build..................................

I listen to metal and hardcore too and i highly recommend a sealed box, itll give you a tighter more precise sound. When you use a ported box it gives more thump but with a lot of double kicks it tends to get muddy, especially with fast double kicks. I have a cheap wal mart 12" and it sounds like you're at the concert when u feel the bass kicks.

I would recommend a properly tuned ported box over a sealed box anyday... If you want something cheap, then a sealed box is the way to go. A quick search shows the Scoche SE12 on walmart and amazon websites for $30-50.. I cant build the box I have for $50...

You can tune your box all you want, fact is if the air can move you wont have as tight of a sound. A sealed box will be less loud, but volume doesn't make good sound. If you want more volume and tight sound you need a more powerful sealed box setup. Most sound stores will tell you that too.

I guess we will have to settle to agree to disagree on this one.. the shops Ive talked to (alot streching from CA-TX/OK) on average have recommended a ported box over a sealed box.. It really is an opinion.
