Putting in new radio
#1
Hey, I bought a blazer a while back, and it had mechanical issues, and no radio. I fixed all the mechanics, so now for the radio. I know all about engines, and other stuff, but not electrical. I have put radios in cars before but only when I replaced the stock one. This one had an after market in before I bought it. Well the previous owner destroyed the wiring badly, so I got to thinking. What would it take to run all NEW wiring from a radio to a speaker box in the back end?
I would like a closed system, except the radio running off the car battery. I just don't know about wiring at all, and whether I'd need specific wires, or just need to buy the speakers, wiring, and radio.
any input is amazing. thanks guys.

Which radio are you putting in? an OEM or aftermarket? If you're going with OEM, then start off with a harness from eBay for the year/model truck. You'll need the truck side (male).. how badly were the otruck wires mangled/cut? You can find the color code many places on the internet for the year Blazer you have.
There's really just 12 or 16 wires to deal with.. power, ground, power antenna or amp, then the four pairs for front/rear speakers.
If you get the OEM harness from eBay/internet company, twist/solder the leads, then plug it into whatever oem radio you get.
If you're going aftermarket, you'll need the same male (truckside) harness, and a female (radio side) harness (usually a lot cheaper) twist the color codes together, plug in the new radio, mount it and you're done.
If you get an OEM, make sure it's for the same model year (AND early or late model if it changed during the year) so it'll go with the trucks BCM. If you're going aftermarket, you wont have to worry abt it.
If you really want to make up a harness seperate from the truck, get the same plugs I listed above and just run separate power, ground and speaker pairs under the carpet and door edge covers to the speakers. It isnt difficult. Just label the speaker pairs on both ends of each parir so you wont have to remember later.
