Default sub box shape

How much does the shape of the box affect the sound?

I wouldn't mind putting my sub in a fancy box up by the passenger side wheel well, so it sites nice and flush.... or close to it, anyway... I can work on amp placement later, but I plan on doing some camping this year, so I'll need the packing space, lol.

Would it be worth the $300+ to get a custom ported box built? I haven't heard my sub in a sealed box so I don't know how it'll sound... Would you even be able to make a decent ported box in that location?

I like the JL Audio Stealthbox idea, but unfortunately, they don't sell just the box... And it's for a 4 door... I love my Type-S, it just takes up most of my meager cargo space, lol.

Box shape will not change the sound at all. but if you have crazy angles and such, make sure that they are rounded over to help air flow. I dont think I could even charge 300 bucks to make a ported box. unless it had fiberglass and plexi. it would be very though to get a ported box small enough to kind of blend in there. Just not that much room.

Maybe I'll chuck the sub into a sealed box I have kickin' around, see how it sounds in that thing...

Or maybe I'll just have to build my own.... Yech... I'm not a carpenter, lol

You are the insult master!!!

I'd find a friend or 2 and start from there. There's no way you should pay that much for a box unless it comes with lights and all. Making a box is pretty simple. Basicly measure, cut and paste.

sealed will give nice punchy clean bass, and ported will give that boomy loud deep bass.

I love the ported sound, too... I'll probably miss it, lol, I'll have to see what I can do, if I don't like the sealed sound...
