Default Voltage questions

I've noticed the display on my amp goes done under 12 volts on strong notes. I mean this is only 550 watts right, should it really be dropping this low?

4 gauge power and ground no other amps hooked up.....I think the ground for the batt is 4 gauge, but the wire going from the batt to the alt is 8 i think.....long story short i told a shop to do 'the big 3', i dont think they knew what i was talking about.....and only did the ground(I think!)

Is the amp a trustworthy device to judge from? or will the batt to alt cable make a big difference? oh battery is an AC delco700 cca(or around there) its only a year old, as is alt.

I know everyone's against it, but id like to try a cap just to see if it does stabalize the voltage it jumps around pretty good, afterall, i've always been a see'er to believ'er type.

Default RE: Voltage questions

I'm pulling 425 RMS at the moment (only have 2 of my 6 speakers installed) Haven't pulled any voltage measurements yet, but there hasn't been any noticable voltage drop at the guage... But nex time I've got the tunes cranked, I'll measure it up for ya.

And I do _not_ have the big 3 done...

4 guage power into a distro block, 8 guage to each amp, and 8 guage grounds

I'll admit that I installed a cap once thinking it would help. It has since been sold. My opinion is that you are better off without it. Also if the shop doesn't know about the big 3 go elsewhere unless you can get them to do exactly what you want.

if your voltage is dropping that much, (and Alpines are dencently power hungry), is not really a problem. I would do the "big 2" and be done with it. If you are gng to be going over the 1000 watt mark, think about getting a better battery, and then move on from there.
