For the rear end I decided to go with the Ford 8.8 out of a 05 explorer. Just need to shorten the driver side axle tube & drill the Blazer and lug pattern 5x4.75 in the Ford axles. I did try to find a 8.5 out of a S10 or S15 but after 6 months of wild goose chases and God knows how many miles traveled I'm giving up on that.

I finally got around to tearing down my 5.3 main and rod bearings are excellent can't say the same for the camshaft bearings they're all showing copper on the bottom half of the bearing. I know every thread says don't ever look at the cam bearings when you're doing a cam swap but I did. The camshaft is an LQ4 by P/N 12560967 little odd since mine is a L59 5.3L. cylinders look great still see hone marks and lifters and push rods are in excellent shape also. Tomorrow I will call the machine shop and see when I can bring the block in to have new cam bearings pressed in.

Went to the machine shop today rough cost is about $250-$300 for new cam bearings + installation and hot tanking the block. I was hoping to get away with not pulling the crankshaft but machine shop wants the crankshaft out to do the cam bearings. so that's why I'm doing the hot tank on the block. And it will be about 3 weeks before they get to it and get it done the guy that does that work is on vacation until next week lucky me. But it's worth the wait to have it done right. I am hoping to use the newer wider cam bearings but they won't know until they size the OEM cam bearings to see which ones will work in there.

Okay I got the 5.3 all the way down to Bear block. Tomorrow I will run the ball hone through it. since I'm going to have it hot tanked I have them cleans up my mess from that. If anybody's interested in the third gen press fit rods and pistons I removing from this 5.3. PM me and we can make a deal. they are an excellent shape they only have 159k on them. I already sold the 862 heads I pulled off to my machine shop.

Installed my Brian Tooley trunnion upgrade for my rocker arms. Decided to go ahead and do that just in case down the road I go to a bigger cam. they will be no need to worry about my rocker arms failing and throwing little needle bearings into the oil pan.
