My rebuild white 1998 still has the ticking after swapping the lifters. I replace them with some I salvaged from a 2000 motor. The ticking got worse. High revs it goes silent but idle brings back the tick. I'm going to pull the transmission off before I spend the money for new lifters. I suspect this ticking is in the trany.http://i1137.photobucket.com/albums/...reen/001-2.jpg
This one had a blow lower intake: I got the Green 2001 4x4 secondary air injection check valve in today and this thing smoked white smoke forever. Oil on the ground and stank like fuel extremely bad. It took 30 minutes of running this thing at idle and high revs to clear out the exhaust. It is purrin like a kitten now and no smokin. The oil pressure is about 20 at idle and 40 at cruising speed. I'm thinkin it will need a oil pump.

My brother has a 68 c10 and he swapped in a 700r. After the swap we heard the "ticking." We assumed it was the torque converter and never really messed with it any more...
He recently burned up the clutch discs in it and it is now in the process of being overhauled. Once it is back in, I'll let you know if the ticking is eliminated...

I have a 95 2wd that had a tick when I bought it. I took off the trans and pulled the pump and what looked like a nail fell out. I had the trans rebuilt and the tick was gone. Too bad the person I gave it to ran it after the lower intake went and toasted the block. I'm taking the motor out tomorrow with the neighborhood kids. Kids learning how cars work. It must be a good thing.
