Question Just got a blazer.

Earlier this week i pick up a 2002 4.3 Extreme Blazer. For the price of $580.00 .

Motor has a slight knock in it not to bad, I'm going to see if its upper or lower this weekend.(I think its spun Bearing). I put in some gold old 40 weight oil and it did not help any.

Truck has 150,000k Miles on it should, I save some time and cash and get a reman motor or rebuild this one my self?

I've found re maned for a little bit over 1k and I've seen used motors with like 78k miles for $650.00.

I just need a little guidance on witch way to go.

It depends how mechanicly inclined you are and if it can actually be fixed.

Thank you all, I can put a reman engine in I think I can rebuild it with a book. I've built a 350 befor.

Do you think a renamed would be more cost/time affective?

Well hell, if you have 350 experience, the newer Blazers look pretty damn slick with a 350 stuffed in them, plus she will be no slouch when you need to go 4 miles in 2 minutes to get to Tacobell before they close...
350's are easy to find, there's ton of stuff for them, etc

If I can ever trick my wife into letting her stangle hold of the finances go for just a minute, I will be scooping on up myself ... *dreams...*

welcome to the forum. i just did a rebuild on a 99' motor. its fairly simple but do yourself a favor and go with the reman. after machine work and new parts the price tag doubles. esp. with the motor having a knock in it...who knows what is reusable....crank damage...rod damage. just go with a reman and have the peace of mind with a warrenty. put the extra $ towards some other goodies like headers and an intake to help that little 4.3 breathe better. heres a link to the rebuild thread i made.... https://blazerforum.com/forum/builds-48/1999-blazer-4-3l-engine-overhaul-29172/ pm me with any ?'s
