Thanks OilCountry. Obviously Im a noob at this whole deal. Im used to lifting trucks and suv with coils. Lifting the blazer is a whole new deal. I think Im going to go with shackles as they keep the ride fairly stock unlike add-a-leaf. Thanks for the help.

A while back this use to be yet another one of those campfire arguments… do I run shock boots or don’t I? While some manufacturers recommend that you do, some do not. The general consensus throughout the 4-wheel drive world now is that you should run shocks without a boot. Reason; when 4-wheeling, the amount of dust, dirt, grime, mud and grit generated is far more than that of a normal car, driving on the road. With a shock boot in place, the nastiness will get caught inside the boot and can’t be removed. The grit and grime will load up on the piston rod because of the thin oil coating. This grit will ultimately score not only the seals of the shock, but the shock piston rod as well, causing oil seepage and ultimately, the demise of the shock itself. Running without a boot will allow you to blast that crud away with a garden hose and a soft cloth.

i can see your side for offroad usage, for general purpose though like daily commute and onroad i'd stick with boots, but like you said a campfire argument. each to his own

I can see where dirt can get trapped in a boot but I don’t see how not running a boot is going to help. A boot will cut down on the dirt entering almost completely and without one you are going to pick up every ounce of dirt and ruin your seal. Your saying you can wash the dirt away with a garden hose but when your wheeling you let’s say flex out a bit and when your shock contracts you already could of damaged your seal at that point. Sort of a bad idea in my view. My ranchos have boots on them and your factories Bilestines have those shields covering it.

Do what you want, I just put it out there and have never seen a shock w/o boot that has been damaged off or on road. A boot does not protect anything. it has holes to let the dirt in anyway,. Its just for decoration. but don't take my word for it.

Also notice you don't see any boots on pro offroad trucks.

These are $1290.00 a set pro type offroad shocks,, guess what NO boots come with em,, you know why, cause they don't
work.

well I'm gonna do the lift this sunday for sure.

Took some time, but me and my bud are just gonna crack it out and get it done.

Meanwhile I painted my bowtie today, a nice white. Decided I wanted something diffrent from most.
and I think it came out pretty good.

well I also posted (i hope a soon to be sticky) thread on how to paint the bowtie.
tell me what you think.

Thanks for your intrest guys!

PS. on a personal note, I got my first job today in an automotive career at a Hot Rod shop. I'm so excited.

So after 13 and a half hours of work I got my 2" lift on.

SO in my personal opinion, the work was hard as heck, due to my blazer being metric and all the new parts being standard. ugh.

But I am highly satisfied with how it turned out
(PICS TOMORROW)

the ride is sooo much better with the new shocks.

So I am pleased

NOTE: the new torision keys were a COMPLETE WASTE! Exactly the same.
But since i bought them, and took probably 4 hours just taking out and putting new ones in, it works for me.

Now I get to find new tires now

and get an alignment and adjust my lights.
