Ill have to take a look at slicks in the future depending on how these drag radials run. Do you run screws and tubes in your slicks or do you just run tubeless?
I think foot braking is what has allowed me to run for years on the stock rearends in these trucks. My trans builder could have put a transbrake in this trans, but i opted to not have it for fear of breaking more stuff. Haha
The track im looking at is in Glyndon, MN right next to Fargo, ND. But i have not been there yet. I was racing at Alamo Motorplex in San Antonio, TX when i lived there last year.
I run screws and tubes - screws are really the only way to keep wrinklewalls from spinning at the 10-15 psi where they are typically run. Once you put screws in them, tubes are pretty much a given.
Supposedly trans brakes really don't make you faster - just easier to be more consistent (not so important unless you are bracket racing). With mine, when staging I set the trans brake, take my foot off the brake, and floor the accelerator pedal - I have the 2-step in my ignition box limit the RPM with the trans brake set to 3500 (converter stalls at 4100). When the light comes down the tree I just let the trans brake button go and I'm off. No waiting for brakes to release or engine RPM to come up or carburetor butterflies to open and accelerator pumps deliver. In my case I think I saw maybe 0.1 second improvement in ET.
In your case you have fuel injection! I wouldn't recommend a trans brake for you unless you have a full spool in your rear and that also requires c-clip eliminators because you no longer can put the c-clips in! Not sure if you could do c-clip eliminators and retain disk brakes on an 8.625 since you have to cut off the bearing area of the housing and put a different bearing setup on. The new seal relies on the backing plate being present. My 8.625 rear has been converted to drum brakes off an 8.5 rear end.
Pushrods came in today and i made some progress.
Soo close!!
I also added 2 SPAL 5.25 fans to the heat exchanger while i had it apart.
I have them temp mounted just to see how well they work. If i need to, i have room for a 3rd one of the same size.
I found a good location for my supercharger coolant overflow bottle. I thinks its about the only spot i can put it at this point and still keep it high in the system.
Fabbed a simple bracket up and she fits like a glove.
She is complete again and back on the road.
Now i just have to get the tune dialed in.
Look like any other beater to most people. HAHA
The heat exchanger hangs below the front bumper by about 1-2in, but is almost hidden. And my Intake air temps stay around 93-95 degrees so far with the fans and pump running.
VERY VERY Nice Work!! Best I've seen in a modern swap. You should contact "Jags that Run" and get yours in the next edition of their book. Can I post your last photo in Hotrodders.com?
