i have been tossing around the idea of this as well with a 4bt cummins. i would love to see it done, and it would be an amazing improvement to a blazer.

the 4bt is getting quite common, the size of it makes it quite the task to install in a 4x4 blazer. i am thinking the vw3 liter or up to the 4.2 liter would work nicely

So without major modification to the front end, a 6bt would be out of the question? lol

But a 4bt conversion will cost you a pretty penny.

1) IFS handle that weight? ( A sas would handle the weight better)
2) They are hard to come by (A running one)
3) Motor mounts
4) Tranny
5) Price of diesel vs gas

I think he needed a 2" bl and a cowl hood to clear the motor. I'm also not sure if there'd be room with the crossmember and everything with the 4bt and ifs.
