a modded 1/2 ton ifs will take care of the weight
they are readily available
a modded 460le or a 480le will handle the power with no problem
you will need a body lift
with proper gearing you could see 30+ mpg which would be a big improvement

Oh I agree with you, and even with the price of diesel, you would probably get better gas mileage with the 4bt than the 4.3 too. But the initial cost is the problem. How many years would it take you to make up the initial investment? Or will you even be able to make up that $$$$. But if I had some money laying around I would definitely do this conversion.

a rebuildable core would be about 800 and a good rebuild would tun another 2000
averaging 30000 miles a year you would break even in about 5 years but, you would also have an engine that would be good for at least 500,000
now if money was no problem,,,,I would put the VW 5.0L V10 TDI

that s10 is on s10forum, not sure if he has a build, he got that engine from a chevy delivery van. he also extended the frame and put a new longer box on and than is running a 5th wheel hitch Lets See Your SFA S-10 - Page 20 - S-10 Forum
post 958 it has a hp 44 and d60 rear, he gets good mileage, im in the process of the sas, ifs wont hold up.
