Did I Fubar this from the beginning?

In this engine build I used a gasket in the oil housing and it covered this hole. Upon removing this housing the gasket I installed was sucked into this area and deformed so as to allow the oil to move past the gasket.

The Main journal bearings look like this.
This block was not hot tanked.


Any help with this gasket question? Here is a picture of the gasket in place.
