Unhappy Dtc p0306

Some Background:
I love my 96 Chevy Blazer, however, over the years (bought it new), it really has had a lot of failures; at 200,000 miles - on its 3rd fuel pump, 3rd alternator, many batteries (approx 6), 3rd cat converter, 3rd automatic transmition, the pink coolant problem = intake manifold gasket replacement, 2nd set of shocks, under dash vacuum leak, many upper & lower ball joint replacements, throttle control valve, elec short in automatic seat/lumbar pump, all 3 O2 sensors replaced at different times, (and a few other items, I'm sure).

That 3rd cat converter & fuel pump replaced within last month.

Now it skips real bad - not constant - just when taking off and accellerating. Going along, I can find comfortable, smooth ride and hold that speed. It's just when I first take off and need to get out of my way/get moving. I checked cyl 6 spark plug & wire - ok. I hope my fuel injector is not bad - how can I check? If it is, should all 6 be replaced? I'm mechamical - how do I change them step by step? What/where should I buy (cost effective)? Any other thoughts beside fuel injector(s)?

Help - Thanks, Lew Bechthold lewbech@gmail.com

You could start with a compression test on the motor to see how healthy the engine is. If it shows fairly even (all cylinders within +/- 10% of each other) compression, then that is likely not the problem.

After that, when was the last time that the cap, rotor, plugs, and wires were changed? Also, the last time they were changed, what brand of components were installed? Many members have had misfire conditions caused by poor quality aftermarket parts.

Plugged cats can result in a build up of carbon inside the engine. A good seafoam treatment followed with new spark plugs can work wonders on an engine, especially if it has never been done before.

As far as testing your injectors, an injector balance test can be done, but not without a bi-directional scan tool. At 200,000 miles, I am surprised that you have not already had problems with the poppet nozzles. GM has an updated MFI spider that is a drop in replacement for your current injector/poppet nozzle spider. This can be purchased for around $300 from your nearest dealer.
