Default Engine/Octane Booster?

Whats with all this stuff that STP and such make that say its an Octane Booster? Do they work? I work at a gas station and we have all kinds of products like that. They say its gives you more horsepower and throttle response and such... I just don't know about spending the 10 bux(i'm cheap) Thanks

Not worth the $$$. If you actually read the bottle, it only raises the octane by a few points so if it says it raises the octane of 15 gallons of gas by 7 points, that means that if you started out with 87 octane you would only be at 87.7 overall. It would be much cheaper and better to fill up with 89 octane if you really wanted to.

Alittle about octane. Octane is a rating of the oxygen content of a fuel. The more oxygen content the more resistant a fuel is to pre-detonation and the slower the fuel burns. High compression and forced induction motors require a higher octane because of the cylinder pressures and associated charge temperatures (high pressure leads to high temperatures). When the intake charge is heated as it is compressed, you may get hot spots that may auto-ignite causing detonation knock (very bad).

If you aren't having detonation issues, then you will see minimal performance increase by increasing the octane rating of your fuel unless you can adjust for the higher octane by advancing the timing (all else being stock).

EXACTLY!! plus, they usually say something like, treats 12 gallons, or treats up to 15 gallons. So what does that mean for the people whose cars have a 34 gallon tank? Do they have to buy three bottles of that stuff
