Default fuel pump pos

well, sunday afternoon i was driving home from getting groceries, and I get to a very busy intersection, when i decide to turn on some tunes. After about the 2nd or 3rd hard bass note my Jimmy dies right at the light. I was blocking 2 lanes of traffic, and i was by myself. I tried to start her back up, and "uh tu tu tu tu" and no 2 second hum at start up. damn fuel pump!!!
so I got it towed to my regular shop, and phoned him the next day. $790!!!!!! cad. and thats without labour and a filter. damn, and i just replaced the heater core and alternator like a month ago. I dunno about this jimmy anymore, im really considering tradeing her in. its got 188000 kilometers, and its falling apart stupid pos gmc

anyone else dish out 1k for a fuel pump replacement?

actually make that $1252.47 canadian. But my dad is buddies with the owner so I paid $1100 cash.

Furthermore, he said that the rattle from my muffler is actually my catalic converter (says the honey comb is pooched) which started the day i got the muffler put on, so i think the muffler shop is at fault there.

but she seems to be running just fine, other than a subtle, strange hum/grinding noise from right in front of me that started 2 weeks ago

and to make things worse, i got my layoff notice, effective thursday [:-]
