RE: gas mileage
gas mileage is also greatly affected by how much you put your foot into it. if you drive slower, at lower RPMs, than youll use less fuel.
low tire pressure can increase the rolling resistance, decreasing your gas mileage
a few other things:
1. dont accelerate toward red lights, i see so many people do this, its a pure waste of gas, and you just end up getting on the brakes harder. instead coast up to the light (sure, youll get to the light slower, but youll be right next to that other person) you also cause less wear on your brakes by coasting, as you generally slow down when coasting.
2. coast down hills, if its steep enough for you to continue at the speed limit, theres no point in being on the gas
3. dont leave the engine sitting idling for a long time, just turn it off. a myth is that it takes more fuel to shut it off and restart, this is not true
i get about 16 in the city and 20-21 on the highway in my 95
