Rocker arms on a 2.8 liter V6
#1
My 2.8L V6 has about 109,000 miles on it. When it revvs to about 3000 RPM in neutral, I can hear the rocker arms rattling around inside. I have been told by mechanics that roller rockers can fix this. Could it?
Even if roller rockers could fix it, I have another query....
I have been reading around these forums (gotta love search), and I have found that the correct roller rocker ratio for a 4.3 liter is about 1.52. However, I couldn't find the rocker ratio for a 2.8 liter. Is the 4.3 rocker arm ratio the same as the 2.8 rocker arm ratio?
thanks in advance!

I believe that stock ratio is 1.5:1.
This sounds more like your lifters are giving up than a fault of your rocker arms... If the lifters are not staying pumped up, you will get valve noise.
To change out to the roller rockers available from Comp Cams (1413-12 for 1.52:1 & 1414-12 for 1.6:1), you may have to get the adjustable studs, but I believe that the 2.8L used in the trucks was Gen1 only so it should have adjustable rocker arm studs from the factory. To run the higher 1.6:1 ratio Comp Cams rockers, you would need to increase the clearance on the push rod guide plates. For any higher ratio rocker arm, you would want to install new, stiffer valve springs to limit valve float at higher RPM.
