Well, considering you can do this yourself, it's not worth the money.

With that said, I have done this mod and will be returning back to stock and if I can find another throttle blade to modify, I'll try the 3/8" tall diverter as used in the 5.7L, but I'll never be going back to no diverter. The problem is diverter does serve a purpose. Its function is to even out the distribution of the EGR gasses to all of the cylinders.

Now, as I mentioned, I have done this mod. I did this more than a year ago and around 8,000 miles. The plugs were changed around the same time. Last time I pulled my plugs, I noticed a rich condition on the front plugs (slightly blackened) and a lean condition on the rear cylinders. Only explaination is the uneven distribution of exhaust gasses in the intake.

I'll also add that really this only changes the initial, off idle, throttle response or 'tip-in'. I have not noticed ANY gain in hp or tq from this mod nor have I noticed any change in mileage. We'll see how I feel about that when I get the stock blade back in, but based on my plug conditions, I wouldn't recommend this as it could cause problems down the road. I'll also do more testing with a 3/8" tall diverter to see if that is the 'best of both worlds' way of going.

hey there---definetly just go grab a dremel---i ran with no diverter for about 5 months but as like swart said, i was getting a rich front and lean rear condition so i put the diverter back on, and dremeled it in about half---so far so good. plugs look solid for now---but we'll see after i go home next weekend (600km drive)

edit---by far the best cheap mod i've done is gutting my airbox--then putting in a K&N. she growls

I bet dyno results would be miniscule. Somewheres near almost imeasurable to 0.001. It may move the torque curve as stated. Itsy bitsy.

I noticed nothing when I removed mine lovingly w/ a large pair of channel locks.

did you guys that have done in have a high flow muffler also?? if not, then that can account for the off idle response, but nothing after idle. if you open up the intake in any way, to notice full desired results, you have to equally open up the exhaust. just something to think about.

I just got done cleaning (or trying) to clean the throttle body (97 Jimmy). That darn diverter makes it tough to get it nice and clean. I had to clean because the throttle was sticking...off idle.

How difficult is it to take the TB off. Is there only three bolts holding it on? How about the linkages....do they have to be removed as well?

The throttle body is held on by 3 bolts, however, there are other brackets that have more bolts/nuts holding them on that must be removed to properly remove the TB. You will also have to disconnect the throttle and cruise cables. I had some difficulties with the clip on the throttle cable (I think it was the throttle cable)... Well, anyway, when it came loose, it went flying. About an hour later and I found it. Crappy part was the truck was parked over grass. I am lucky to have found it.

Thanks Kyle, that helps me out. I have been through hell and back with the 93 s10 blazer and now I picked up a nice 97 jimmy. It's just a bit different.

Can you recommend a quality cap & rotor. Advanced only had Swanson or something like that...I said no thanks. Have not looked around yet.

No problem!

For the cap and rotor, I recommend NAPA's Echilin brand. I have yet to have one of these prematurely fail. Just be careful when tightening it down. I think I cracked mine by over tightening the hold-down screws. It doesn't bother me right now, but I still need to get it replaced.

I also believe that these parts have a lifetime warranty from NAPA and I have never been let down by a NAPA warranty before and my family has been going to NAPA for parts since practically their beginning.
