Default 02 blazer possible oil pump bad

I have an 02 Chevy blazer rwd 4 door
lil back story bought it couple months a ago from a guy who bought from a guy that died( his daughter sold it) the vehicle Sat for awhile according to him. I bought and everything worked fine. I live In ky and visited ny.. I just got back from ny and I was driving the ky hills on one of the mains highways and then loud ticking/knocking started in the bottom half of the engine and then my oil pressure dropped from about 40 which is where it normally sits to 20 and the ticking/ knocking continued with acceleration and at a idle .. I read thru these forms and some ppl said that after a long time sitting it could be old oil that’s clogged up on pump that fell off( cuz I did a new oil change day before I left to go to ky from ny…any ideas/diagnosis what it could be I’m trying not to have pay to have new oil pump put in

Sounds like bearings to me.

Worn bearings can cause a valve lifter to collapse at idle because oil pressure near the bad bearings is low (pressure leaking out around worn bearings) and lifters are fed off of the main bearing oil galleries..Once the engine is off idle, the oil pump puts out more volume and the pressure goes up (quieting the lifter). Noise under acceleration would be the knocking from the extra clearance in the bearing as the piston works harder.

Here's the way mine sounded with this condition - see post #1 here. Was my first post on this forum. Now it is 60K miles later.

Used, maybe $400-800, depending on mileage. New, maybe $1500-1800, plus something like 20 hours of labor.

You should also figure in new belts, hoses, spark plugs, wires, fluids, etc.
