The engine in my blazer locked up after only owning the car for1 month. I spent 1300 to buy it, the interior and exterior are perfect, the 4x4 works and the trans shifts just fine. Is it stupid to replace the engine seeing as how it will cost more than what i paid for the car probably? I hate to see it go to scrap when it is in such good looking shape. Basically im looking for opinions on whether or not it is worth it to replace the engine whe the rest of the car has 164,000 miles on it? If you think i should replace it then what is the most reliable/cost effectiveway to go (new engine/refurbished engine, etc..?)???

 

Why did yours lock up? What about rebuilding yours? Do you think it would be worth putting the money into?
When I threw a rod in mine, after owning for only 3 months, I just went with a v8. It was more problems than I thought.
If you think it would be worth it to put a motor in it, then look around and compare prices between a new and remanufactured engine. Most of the time, a reman'd engine will have the same warranty as a new one, if not more.

 

To be honest when it come to really getting into the engine i dont know alot so im not sure why it locked up. My guess is that it was a rocker arm broke off. The only reason i think that is because it had a slight knock before it locked up and i was told that it was probably a loose rocker arm, and i was going to get around to tearing the engine down an tightening it up, but obviously i didntdo it soon enough.

 

Look around on Craigslist and eBay. I found a Blazer engine for my Astro (4.3L vin W) for $200, already pulled from the truck, on Craigslist. The guy sent me vids of it running right before he pulled it for a V8 swap.

It is worth it if everything else is in good/great shape as you say.
