Default 1996 s10 blazer transmission

My transmission dip stick got stuck in tube and would not release. Pulled pan and noticed that it gets stuck on the end stick curled end on a small metal flange attached to the transmission. Is this metal flange or bracket required or can i remove it, also what is this bracket for?

If you are refering to the bracket attached to the valve body, pretty sure it is there to stop the dipstick from going cray in the case. You say no third, do you have 4th? With those miles Probly looking at a rebuild soon regardless.

Blazer only lets me go into 1st and 2nd. I get up to 40 - 45 and no shifting. I believe the bracket is attached to the valve body if that is the aluminum casing. Can I remove it or will it do damage? Or do I cut the curled loop from the end of the dip stick. My 04 chevy Avalanche has the same style dip stick and almost the same problem with the shifting, not going into 3rd. It has only 110,000 miles on it. It went bad before my Blazer. Any ideas on that one? Trams shop told me they both have same size trans. Help if you can

Try to fix the bottom of the dipstick. The dipstick gaurd on later models might fit, they are shaped better. On the tranny, find out which it is exactly and search the forum, most 4l60e, 700r4, 4l80e, etc are covered pretty well here and you can usually diagnose the problem best by reading.

Default Installing new trans on my 96 s10

I am installing a rebuild on my 96 s10 blazer and I need to know all the tricks and things to look out for and what not to do's. My step son ( who is the real mechanic ) is helping, but every little bit will help us tremendously. Also, what is a good price for a rebuilt with 2 year/24,000 mile warranty?
