Hey guys, decided to finally make a new thread for my NV3500 Swap. I'm trying to get back to this project again.
Last year I picked up a shifter and pedal assembly from the pick 'n pull yard, and now I'm finally trying to source a transmission.
I've just recently learned more about the different versions of the Chevy NV3500's. For anyone that's more knowledgeable than myself, would love to hear your input.
Apparently there are 3 versions used in the S10/S10 Blazers.
1.) Early, with an external slave cylinder, and middle shifter location. (This is what would have been OE in my Blazer, had it come with a manual)
2.) 96-97? Internal slave cyl / throughout bearing combo, middle shifter location. (This is the version I hope to go with)
3.) 98+ internal slave, rear shifter location.
I would really like to go with the internal slave setup, and being that this is a swap I'm guessing I could make the rear shifter location work. However, since the shifter I have came from a 93 S10 I'm not sure how well it would work with the 98+ rear shifter location.
Has anyone else done this that can offer any feedback or suggestions?
Obviously I don't want to buy the flywheel and clutch kit until I'm sure on the slave set up, and if I go with the earlier version I should replace the shift fork and pivot ball as well.
My 4l60 seems to be on it's last leg again, so hopefully I can get this figured out and completed before it completely dies.
Oh and I think it should be pretty obvious from the pictures I posted, but my Blazer is 4wd. My plan is to use the existing NP231c transfer case with the NV3500 trans. I'm hopeful the driveshafts will work, but I'm well aware that there's a good chance they will need to be modified.
Finally got a Trans! Slow progress, but this project hasn't been forgotten. I also picked up a new Flywheel, Clutch, T-out Bearing, and FW & Clutch Bolts. I went with the 96-97 so the T-out bearing is also the slave cylinder. They only two things I should still need are the clutch master cylinder, and hydraulic clutch line. Decided to wait until I have the pedal assembly installed before I make the decision on early vs later style master cylinders.
I've got a few other repairs on other vehicles I need to take care of, then I just need to finish making room in the garage to pull in the Blazer.
