Tranny went on my 88 4x4, so I thought I would regasket the engine while everything was apart.

Now for the questions...

1. My smog pump is locked up and I plan to get rid of it, anyone know what length the new serpentine belt should be? I have AC and a 700r4

2. I replaced the intake gasket, but the valve lash instructions in the chilton's mabual are pretty vague on clearance. Any one know how to adjust the valves correctly? I am afraid that the guide instructions will make them too tight and i do NOT want to try and redo this with the engine in the truck.
