2002 possible trani, maybe 'U' joint
Just got an e-mail from daughter. Car threw a code last night . Haven't gotten there with my code reader yet. She says, with the window open she can hear a clank as she accelerates and as it shifts gears. Is there anything in the trani that would sense an imbalance on the tailshaft bushing and throw a code if the Driveshaft was out of balance due to a bad 'U' joint?
Wishful thinking. a 'U' joint would be an easy, cheap fix

Definitely sounds like the u joint is bad from a dead stop in park put foot on brake and put in gear you should hear this clank clink then before even moving not while moving possibly when your transmission changes gears youd hear clanking it could very well be that the differential has problems like pinion gear wearring or the gears in rear end mine made noise and then blew the whole diff cover off and sheared the gears only had pinion gear left was not cool. ID DEFINITELY HAVE U JOINT CHANGED AND HOPE THAT PINION GEAR IS GOOD AS WELL AS GEARS BUT AS EXPLAINED IT SOUNDS LIKE U JOINT AND MORE THAN LIKELY IT DID SET A CODE AS THE TRANNY ARE ELECTRONIC AND WOULD PROBABLY SET A CODE ALSO CHECK THE TRANNY MOUNT TAKE 2 SECOND TO LOOK AT BUT MOST LIKELY U JOINT DOES THE VEHICLE VIBRATE OR SHIMMY A LITTLE WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS SIMILAR TO BAD TIRES. THAT WOULD GAURANTEE U JOINT COULD BE ITS ON WAY OUT BUT NOT ENOUGH YET TO CAUSE TRUCK TO SHAKE A LITTLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.

What her over sensitive ears heard was the Heat shield on the Cat. The OBD2 Code and the noise was not related. thankfully. Her diagnosis was wrong but I give her points for coming up with that conclusion. Code thrown, clang in and out of gear.. The Clang was not really a clang. It was the heat shield quick vibration as the Engine torqued. At least she was thinking smart. Tacked the Heat shield back and cleaned the MAF ( P0101 code) and we will hope the light stays out so I wont have to replace the MAF
