Is A 4L60e 4WD The Same As A 2WD?
I have a quick question for you transmission guys. I know this sounds stupid, but is a 4L60e 2WD transmission the same as a 4WD? I know that all of the application guides make the distinction between the two, but it looks to me like if you take the tailshaft off of a 2WD trans. you are left with the same 5 bolt mounting pattern as the transfer case. I would like to know because I will have to replace the tranny soon in my `94 4WD S-10 Blazer and may run across a good 2WD unit. If it is otherwise the same, I could just pull the tailshaft housing off and put my transfer case on. Thanks, Jeff.

Thanks Chris, That`s what I was afraid of. It sounded too easy. It looks to me like GM could have saved some money and made them interchangable. I don`t think I will be rebuilding mine myself, I never tore down an automatic before. I have only done the external stuff. I have heard that you have to do a couple of them before you get it right. I think I will go the cheap route and try to get a good used one. You say a `95 will not work? I thought they were the same to `96. Thanks, Jeff.
