5.3 vortec swap questions
#1
I have a 96 2wd blazer i've been wanting to do a v8 swap on for the longest. People are always the vortec v8s are the easiest v8 swaps to do. A person at school has a 5.3 vortec outta of a van with wiring harness and computer with 150,000 miles for $400.00. I have a few questions regarding the swap imma state if you answer it would sure help alot thanks.
Question:
1-The 4.3 Vortec is basically a 5.7 Vortec with 2 cylinders shaved off, im pretty sure the mounts are different but i want to know before I start my checklist of things to buy if there the same or different.
2-Im rebuilding my stock 4l60e with upgraded clutches and internals...and putting in a monster sun shell. I wanna know will this transmission hold up behind the 5.3 and if so how much horsepower will it stand.
3-the swap headers that the steering shaft goes through have the middle 2 exhaust ports side by side but on the 5.3 the 2 middle exhaust ports on the heads are spaced out, but the manifolds are pretty close in do you think that they will clear the steering shaft?
4-Will I be able to use the Same drive shaft
5- Will i need the mini starter and if so where to find it?
6-what will have to be re-routed (lines, hookups, anything?)?
7-any clearence issues?
8-Can you guys give me some tips?

Actually i've been researching for the past week and the questions i've asked were questions I couldn't find answers to...and with all do respect if your not here to help than dont reply...i asked the questions here for the simple reason that were all blazer owners and some other could have endured the problems with their Blazer and could have input to actually put in.

1 - yes, you need mounts that move it forwards. plus, the 5.3 is a gen3/4 so you'll need the LS mount pattern.
2 - depends on how you use it and tire size/stickiness. but for regular driving, a healthy 4l60 seems to hold up for a while at least.
4- yes if you keep the trans in the same spot.
5 - use the stock 5.3 starter.
6-most things
7-some.
8-do more reading.

And if you think I'm not here to help you clearly haven't read much on this forum either! Now please for your own sake at least take greens advice #8 and read some more. Most people spend a year or so reading build threads and whatever else they can find to gather all the info they need to do their swaps.

Go check out S10V8.com, i too am thinking about a v8 swap and have been reading through there off and on for a while, there's complete build threads with your questions answered.
Your truck being 2wd will make life easier i think because you won't need a custom oil pan. At least i don't think
