Default 700R4 Interchange

Hello everyone. Great forum. I have a question regarding the 700R4 ( 4L60 ? ) in my 79 K5. It came out of an 88 Suburban 5.7 TBI. It has lost the D/OD bands or clutch packs. It just free wheels. I have found a brand new trans that was installed in an 88 GMC 4x4 pick up. My question(s) is: Will it fit - the output splines,tv cables, etc., and are the converters interchangeable? I'm on a tight budget so I would like to reuse my converter if at all possible. Any input would be greatly appreciated before I spend the money. I haven't seen the new transmission in person yet so I can't really provide any specifics at this time about it. Thanks and have a safe holiday weekend!

It should be pretty much identical (bad bands aside). You shouldn't have any problems using it.

I guess I made an assumption that both were 4wd. Was that the correct assumption?

Also, on your torque converter, hopefully none of the junk from the bands disintegrating made it into the TC.

You would be correct. They are both 4wd and I know mine is non electronic. As for the TC, I hope you are right. The trans shifts nice and firm from 1st to 2nd, and relatively firm from 2nd to D, where it hits for a second, then the motor just winds to the moon. I know that it could also be that the hole that gets stamped from the factory in the seperator plate may not have been punched ( Chevrolet stamped them in multiples at a time and I have heard quite a few made it past QA without this hole ) and that may have caused the failure due to improper fluid pressure. I thank you again brother.
