Ok I do believe at this point it is the connecting rod bearings and that it was the dry start that caused the issue. So I called around and the auto stores have to order them for me since they dont have a full set in stock but it will only cost me 20 bucks so other then labor I should be ok. I will get those ordered this week and and hopefully have it done by next weekend. I would like to know if someone could point me in the right direction to get a replacement spare tire carrier for the tailgate since mine is missing. Rottidog Thanks for all your help I hope you will continue to be a great source of advice and wisdom. I will let you know how it all turns out.

for the spare tire carrier, I do not know if the 2 door and 4 doors are the same or not. but there is one at the local upull here, its siezed up, but honestly, all it would need is some lube and to be painted. otherwise its in good shape, PM me if you want it, i could possibly grab it for you. (was just there this last weekend and saw it there)
wait, is this first or second gen?

richphotos, I will post a pic of the tailgate tomorrow so you can see the mounts that are already there. How much to pull it and ship to me? I would definitely be interested as I cannot seem to find one. I gotta go pull a bumper for mine at the local upickandpull myself. they did not have any carriers though. I am really jumping into a full project here with this blazer but think it will be rewarding in the end. I am going to start a thread about my life breathing restoration project.
giovanni, is that your blazer in your sig? I like the way that looks. I plan to go with matte black myself but like your rims and valance. I also notice the brim over your windshield. That looks sweet. Where did you get that may I ask?

You're welcome & I hope I/we are right. $20 for a set of connecting rod bearings? I got Clevites for mine & they were around $70 I think.
I forget the torque on them but I do know it goes in steps, I think it's 2 steps.
Getting some assembly lube & soaking them in it will help with the initial start up & avoiding scoring them. I'd still pull the coil wire & turn it over for a few seconds before starting it, just as a precaution.

so I found this conrod bearing set on rockauto.com
DNJ ENGINE COMPONENTS Part # RB3125. Anybody have any experience with these? are they any good or worth it. the website at rockauto shows the set is is only $15.00 kinda makes me a little worried since rotti mentioned paying 70 for his bearings. If these are no good what would be a good set to get to replace my conrods?
